Poreč is the historical and turistical jewel of Istria. Aside from the fascinating old town, guests are also drawn by many excellent accommodation capacities. Many of them return to Poreč because of numerous well kept beaches, cafes and restaurants as well as excellent opportunities for recreation, from tennis, cycling and trekking, to all kinds of water sports. Poreč is also known for its green areas, for which it received numerous awards.
Since accommodation facilities are located to the south and north of the town, a walk along the shore is the favorite way for fun and recreation. You can also take the panoramic train. In the evening, the promenade and the Pier is full of people, and in the early morning, while it is not too hot, of cyclists and joggers. Poreč is the place for music lovers with numerous summer concerts and festivals. Classical concerts are held in the Euphrasian Basilica and jazz concerts in the cafe in the lapidarian of the Poreč Museum. Recent addition is the Street Art Festival with interesting musical and theatrical performances.
The old town is practically a museum under the stars. There are the remains of a Roman temple, the Roman layout of streets and squares, medieval towers, the Early Christian Euphrasian Basilica, Romanesque houses, Gothic and Baroque palaces, ect.
The complex of the Euphrasian Basilica is the most famous landmark in Poreč and it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Opposite the town is the island of St Nikola, a natural shield of the city port. It is the largest and most beautiful of Poreč islands, and also a popular bathing site. The island has a hotel with a pool and catering facilities that offer refreshments. Here you will find a round tower from 1402, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Adriatic, and beautiful pine trees.
